16 October 2026
Mediterranean charm, historic landmarks and a stunning island getaway
Day 1: City Centre and Castle
Begin by exploring the city center's architectural treasures. The Ayuntamiento (town hall) features an impressive façade with Solomonic columns. Visit Mercado Central, a foodie destination showcasing local produce with striking Modernist design.
Stroll along Explanada de España, the waterfront promenade ideal for leisurely walks and seaside dining with traditional rice dishes.
Continue to Santa María basilica and San Nicolás co-cathedral. Spend the afternoon in the colorful Santa Cruz district, where patios burst with fragrant flowers, painting a quintessential picture of Mediterranean life.
Conclude your day at Castillo de Santa Bárbara. Thanks to its elevated position, the fortress is one of the best sunset spots in the city while offering glimpses into the region's rich history.
Day 2: Tabarca Island
Take a day trip to Tabarca Island, the only inhabited island in the region, located approximately 11 nautical miles offshore. Boats depart from Alicante port (about one hour) or Santa Pola.
The island features pristine coves and beaches with clear waters perfect for snorkeling. Explore the historic center, designated as a Historic and Artist Conservation Area, to discover old town walls and cultural landmarks.
Sample caldero tabarquino, the island's signature seafood dish made from premium local ingredients.
